Become a Coach

To become a coach (head or assistant) there are a few certifications required.  Many are one time events. The league covers/reimburses you for any of these if they have costs. Send your name, receipt, address and phone # to [email protected].

Register as a coach on FreeholdSoccer.com
The first thing to do is to register at FreeholdSoccer.com 
Log into or create an account at freeholdSoccer.com. Once logged in, click "my account" top right and then volunteer on the left. 


Required for Recreation & Travel

Background check 
This is good for 3 years. You go to a location in Eatontown for fingerprinting to start the process. After a few weeks, you will be notified to come to MJT Park Recreation office to get a Freehold Township Coaches ID.   Badges can be picked up at Parks and Recreation office at Michael J. Tighe (65 Georgia Road Freehold, NJ 07728)  - 732-294-2190.  Follow the instructions here to start the process. (Background Check)  Township Coach's ID - Coaches are required to wear badges at practices and games.   


Rutgers Training Course 
(In-Person, 2-3 hours):   
- Recreation Only - Travel State Certification covers this requirement

Given across many locations for all NJ sports. Classes are available in the evening. This training meets NJ State requirements for the Little League Law. Here is a list of courses - more classes are always added, so keep checking to find one that works for you.

CPR

Contact the Freehold Township Recreation Office (732.294.2190).  Give them your name and email - they will send you a voucher for the class and avoid out the of pocket/reimbursement process. 

Heads Up Concussion 
This one-time online required class takes only about 30 minutes and teaches you how to identify and handle concussion-type injuries.  The course is offered through CDC Training -  https://www.train.org/cdctrain/course/1089818/details 

Safe Sport Training:

To enroll in this program, the first steps is to obtain the proper access code. To do so, email to [email protected] and you will receive an email autoreply containing the access code. After obtaining the access code copy or click on this url: https://safesporttrained.org/ Once on the SafeSport site click on "Sign in," the click on "Register." When prompted, make sure to select "US Soccer" as your NGB and then enter the access code provided in the email reply. In order to complete your course registration, you will receive an email to confirm your email address. You must respond to this email to activate your account. Set aside up to 90 minutes for the initial training course. Upon completion, print out your certificate and keep on file. You may upload your certificate to your NJ Youth Soccer adult registration account after registering for the new seasonal year.

NJYS State Certificate Course (formerly known as the F-Course):

The NJYS State Certificate Course, formerly known as the F-Course examines safety considerations, emergency planning, injury care and prevention, and significant coaching responsibilities of the coach responsible for players within travel programs. An introduction is provided to foster understanding of player-centered and developmentally appropriate coaching for those engaged within the long-term player development process.
